Sometimes, the best things in life begin without a plan. For Olivovanie, it started with an unexpected introduction in Greece, a farmer who cared deeply about his craft, and a bottle of olive oil worth sharing.
It All Started in Greece
When I first came to Greece, starting an olive oil business wasn't exactly on my mind.
I was working at a hotel, meeting people, discovering the local culture, and enjoying the little things that make life in Greece so special.
And somewhere along the way, I met a woman who introduced me to a local olive oil farmer named Giorgos.
At the time, it seemed like just another encounter. I had no idea that this introduction would eventually lead to Olivovanie.
But sometimes, the most interesting journeys begin that way.
Meet Giorgos: A Farmer Who Doesn't Take Shortcuts
There's something special about meeting the person behind a product.
We often buy food without knowing much about where it comes from, who produces it, or how much care goes into making it.
Meeting Giorgos gave me a completely different perspective.
I had the opportunity to see his olive oil production process firsthand. And what impressed me most wasn't some fancy technology or clever marketing.
It was his attitude.
Giorgos was a farmer who genuinely cared about the quality of what he produced. Watching him work, I could see that he wasn't interested in compromising on the things that mattered.
For him, olive oil wasn't just another product.
It was something he took pride in.
And that made an impression on me.
Then Came the Taste
Of course, dedication and hard work are wonderful things.
But ultimately, the olive oil has to speak for itself.
And when I tasted Giorgos's olive oil, it did.
It was noticeably different from the other olive oils I had tried.
There was something about its flavor, character, and freshness that stayed with me.
I wasn't an olive oil expert. I simply knew that I had discovered something worth sharing.
So that's exactly what I did.
A Little Piece of Greece Goes to Slovakia
I started bringing Giorgos's olive oil back to Slovakia and giving bottles to people around me.
There was no elaborate business plan, no marketing strategy, and no beautifully designed packaging.
Just good olive oil and the simple pleasure of sharing something I genuinely enjoyed.
What happened next surprised me.
People noticed.
Friends and acquaintances who tasted the oil began telling me how much they liked it. Some commented on how different it was from what they normally bought.
And hearing their reactions was exciting.
Because it wasn't just me anymore.
Other people were experiencing the same thing I had experienced in Greece.
What began as a personal discovery was slowly becoming something more.
The Unexpected Request That Changed Everything
Then came a moment I hadn't anticipated.
A woman working in gastronomy approached me with a request for 200 litres of olive oil.
Two hundred litres.
Until then, I had mostly been sharing bottles with people I knew. Suddenly, someone wanted an amount that went far beyond a few gifts for friends and family.
It was the kind of moment that makes you stop and think:
Wait a minute. Could this actually become something?
That request made me realize there might be an opportunity to bring Giorgos's olive oil to more people in Slovakia.
And just like that, the idea of Olivovanie began to take shape.
More Than Just Olive Oil
As the idea developed, I started thinking about what I really wanted Olivovanie to represent.
Of course, the olive oil itself had to be excellent. That was always the starting point.
But I also wanted to share something of the feeling that Greece had given me.
The beauty of simple food.
The warmth of sharing a meal.
The pleasure of slowing down and appreciating ordinary moments.
Because sometimes, a little olive oil on freshly baked bread, a few ripe tomatoes, and good company are all you need for a wonderful afternoon.
That's something I love about Mediterranean life.
It reminds us that enjoyment doesn't always have to be complicated or expensive.
Sometimes, it's right there on the table.
On 17 February 2022, Olivovanie was officially registered.
What had begun as an unexpected introduction in Greece had become a real business.
The Journey Continues
Looking back, what I appreciate most about this story is how naturally it unfolded.
I didn't travel to Greece searching for a business opportunity.
I met someone who was passionate about his work. I discovered a product I genuinely loved. I shared it with other people, and their enthusiasm encouraged me to keep going.
And along the way, Olivovanie was born.
Today, our ambition is to bring more than just excellent Greek olive oil to your home.
We want to share a little of the Mediterranean way of life: its flavors, traditions, people, and everyday pleasures.
And although our journey began with olive oil, we're excited to discover where it might take us next.
Because sometimes, the best things in life really do begin with something simple.
A farmer. A bottle of olive oil. And the joy of sharing something good.
